ST. LOUIS – Saint Louis freshman pitcher Laney Kneib (Webb City, Mo./Webb City) has been named Atlantic 10 Conference softball Rookie of the Week for her performances at last week’s Jimmy John’s Lion Classic 1 hosted by Southeastern Louisiana.
Kneib appeared in all four of SLU’s games in the season-opening tournament. She posted a 1-1 record and one save while allowing no earned runs and just four hits (all singles) in 13 innings.
The right-hander hurled the final three innings and registered a save in the Billikens’ 5-2 victory over Jacksonville State in the tourney opener Feb. 8. She allowed no runs, no walks and one hit. Kneib earned a victory in her first collegiate start later that day, tossing four innings of no-hit ball and walking just one as the Bills blanked Nicholls State 5-0.
Kneib performed well but was the tough-luck losing pitcher against UT Martin in a 3-2 setback Feb. 9. She yielded one unearned run, one hit and one walk while striking out two in four innings of relief.
Saint Louis (2-2) is idle this week. The Billikens compete at the Arkansas Invitational Feb. 22-24.
