The 14U Mac-n-Seitz Royals won the Triple Crown Midwest Challenge tournament at Legacy Park in Lee's Summit last weekend. The red hot Royals dominated bracket play, outscoring their 3 opponents 27-5.
Every player on the roster played a significant role in the tournament. Matt Scanlon and James Mayer combined for a 1 hit shutout in the first game Sunday. In game 2, Joe Thomas and Sam Dance hurled a 5 hit shutout. Will March and Luke Rachwal pitched the Royals to victory in the championship game. Offensive highlights included home runs by Nick Bosma, Sam Dance, CJ Smith and Michael Valdivia. Matt Mclain led the team with 6 runs scored. Blake Wiles had a key 2 out, 2 run single in the 4th inning of the championship game to give the Royals a lead they never relinquished. The defense was anchored by Nick Palmer who caught 27 innings without an error and controlled the opponent's running game.
This week the Royals look to extend their current 3-0 record in Gold Glove League play as they prepare for the Triple Crown World Qualifier on April 29 at Legacy Park.
