Tryout FAQ's

When and how will we find out if my son/daughter made a team?

Within seven days after the tryout the team roster will be posted on the Mac-N-Seitz website.

Will there be call-backs? Meaning, will my son/daughter be called back for another round of tryouts?

If the coach deems it necessary to take a look at a few select players in a game setting or practice setting they have the option to hold a call-back tryout. The format of the call-back is completely at the discretion of the head coach.

Will my son/daughter receive any feedback from the tryout? How did my son/daughter rate out?

The head coach of each team will have the tryout evaluations for each player. If you would like to know how your son/daughter rated out during the tryout you may email the coach for a copy of the evaluation.

How long does the tryout last?

Tryouts are approximately under 2 hours.

What is the format of the tryout?

The Mac-N-Seitz tryouts are based around a Major League Scouting Camp format. Each player will be evaluated in three – four areas:

  • time running from home to second;
  • hitting, in a BP setting given 8 – 10 swings ;
  • fielding, receiving 6- 8 ground balls and throwing to first from the short stop position.

Pitchers will get approximately 10 – 12 pitches in the bull pen where they will be evaluated on pitching form, velocity, location, and overall mound presence.

Catchers will be evaluated last and will not need catching gear.

Some coaches will ask outfielders to stay to evaluate footwork on a drop-step and technique on a do-or-die throw from the outfield.

What is the age cutoff?

Baseball: Whatever age your son is on May 1st 2013, will be the lowest age level he can play the following season.

Softball: Whatever age your daughter is on December 31st, will be the age level she must play the following season.

Softball is broken up into 2 year increments. For example, a 13 year old that does not turn 14 until after December 31st, can play in the 12U age division.

Is there a cost for trying out?

The cost to try out is $20.00

Can my son/daughter tryout for more than one age group?

Yes. The player may tryout for an age group older than the lowest age group he/she would be qualified to play the following year.

Does my son/daughter have the option to select the team/level he or she wants to be considered for?

Yes. During registration the player can select what team/level he or she would like to be considered for. The player will go through the evaluation process with all other players at that age group.

When are tryouts?

Typically, the first three weekends in August. The exact dates are listed at the top of this page.

How do I register for tryouts?

If registrations are open, there will be a link at the top of this page.
