Tryout FAQ’s
Are the
Mac-N-Seitz tryouts open to the public?
Yes
What is the
cost of the tryouts?
FREE!
What will be
required if I play on a MNS team?
You will be required to be a member for $750 + tax which can be paid
monthly or in full (5% discount if paid in full). See
http://www.macnseitz.com/baseball.html
for full member benefits. Also included in this fee are team winter
practice times and practice shorts/shirt . To help offset these
costs, we will have organizational fundraisers.
What should
my child bring to the tryout?
Baseball attire: bat, glove, batting gloves, etc. Cleats SHOULD NOT
BE WORN. Catchers do not need gear.
PLEASE PRINT THE REGISTRATION FORM, FILL IT OUT, AND BRING IT TO THE
TRYOUTS.
Will all the
teams be “major level” teams?
No, MNS hopes to have teams at the AA, AAA, and Major levels
depending on the talent levels and the number of kids that show up
for each age group. You will be given options of what level of team
you would like to make.
What age
should my child try out for?
Your child may try out based on his age or grade level. For example:
If a player turns 17 after May 1st and will be a Junior in the
upcoming school year, he could play down with the 16U team
(sophomores) because of his age, but he could also play with his own
grade level on the 17U team which is preferred.
Where do you
hold the tryouts?
Preliminary tryouts are held at the Mac-N-Seitz facility. Some teams
will do call backs at field locations. If you have a conflict at the
time of your age group’s tryout, please contact MNS to set up
another time to be evaluated.
How long does
each tryout typically last?
Each tryout is given a two hour window.
Where and
when do I sign up?
Signups begin about a half hour before the scheduled tryout at
Mac-N-Seitz.
Is there more
than one team that my child will be trying out for?
You will have a few
options. If you want your child only to be considered for a certain
team/level you will be able to clarify your intentions during
registration. You are always welcome to be considered for every team
at that age level.
What will my
child do at the tryouts?
At Mac-N-Seitz we run our tryouts on a pro tryout format. Each
individual will be timed running from home to second as if the
individual had hit a double. Then the individual will take ground
balls from short and throw across the infield, take live batting
practice, and if he is a pitcher, throw 8 – 12 pitches to finish
out. The exact order of these events may be different for each
individual. Catchers will be evaluated last and will be required to
throw to second base from home plate.
My child will
be trying out for the 8U team…will he be expected to pitch at the
tryout? Yes.
The 8U team will play a few games/tournaments up at the 9U level and
even though we are not evaluating technique or form, we want to get
a feel for arm strength, control, and athleticism on the mound.
How many
games will my child play during the spring and summer?
Each team is different
and each team’s schedule is based on coach’s personal preference and
guidance from participating parents. High School age teams can
expect to play in at least 7 – 9 tournaments from June – July. Teams
at the younger ages will typically play 50 – 60+ games from April –
July.
How much
travel is involved if my child makes the team?
Each team is different and each team’s schedule is based on coach’s
personal preference and guidance from participating parents. There
is no requirement to travel out of town.
Will my child
play fall ball with the team if he/she makes it?
Some teams will have fall ball programs. However, if the child is
involved with another sport that is in prime season, that child’s
commitment should be to that sport and it is not mandatory for them
to participate in the fall ball program.
What if my
child plays multiple sports throughout the year…what kind of
commitment is necessary?
See above for out of season sports. During the season, we frown upon
players missing practice or games to participate in out of season
sport activities. As stated above we do not make practices and games
mandatory during the fall and winter if a player is involved in a
sport at that time. We appreciate the same courtesy.
We hope to see you at
tryouts!!!
