The Coastal Plain League announced today that Edenton’s Trent Miller was named the Rawlings Hitter of the Week, while Martinsville’s Kevin Sweeney was named the Rawlings Pitcher of the Week for week nine (July 22-28) of CPL action.
Miller, a junior from Middle Tennessee State, had a great week at the plate for the Edenton Steamers. Miller had an impressive stat line with 15 hits for a .517 average with three doubles, two home runs, 10 RBI’s, 24 total bases, and a stout .828 slugging percentage on the week. Miller is currently on an eight game hitting streak and leading Edenton to the number one seed in the playoffs for the East Division.
Meanwhile, Sweeney, a 6-5, 215 pound junior for Drury, pitched a complete game shutout this week against Florence. The now two-time Rawlings Pitcher of the Week pitched a great game with six strikeouts while walking none and held the RedWolves to a .217 batting average. Sweeney’s win was part of the Martinsville Mustangs’ eight game winning streak to help put them back into playoff contention.
